Basketball Recap: Lapoynor Makes It Four in a Row at Home

LaPoynor won against Trinity last Saturday with 74 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. The LaPoynor Flyers came out on top against the Palestine Wildcats by a score of 74-64. Given the Flyers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while the Wildcats are ranked 548th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Palestine saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Bj Walker went 9 of 14 en route to 20 points along with five assists and four steals. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for Walker. The team also got some help courtesy of Thomas Edwards, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 14 points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

LaPoynor's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.8 points per game. As for Palestine, they now have a losing record at 4-5.

LaPoynor wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 70-51 defeat against Martins Mill on the 17th. As for Palestine, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 47-43 win against Waco on the 12th.
