Yerington's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kenneth Picotte, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds, and Colby Rowe, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 boards. The dominant performance gave Rowe a new career-high in rebounds. Paxtyn Drake was another key player, putting up seven points and 12 boards.
Yerington was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oasis Academy only posted six assists.
Meanwhile, West Wendover came tearing into Saturday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 64-46 victory over the Mustangs.
West Wendover's win came from a few key players Yerington will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Estaban Correa, who went 8 for 12 on his way to 20 points in addition to six assists and four steals. He has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Adryan Carlos, who went 7 of 13 en route to 15 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
West Wendover pushed their record up to 16-4 with the win, which was their 23rd straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.2 points per game. As for Yerington, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Yerington has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 33.2 boards per game. However, it's not like West Wendover struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Yerington was taken down by West Wendover 74-46 when the teams last played last Friday. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Carlos, who went 14 for 21 on his way to 29 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals. Now that Yerington knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
