The Monticello Mustangs will face off against the Louisa County Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Monticello's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Goochland with a sharp 11-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.
Willow Barr was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Dorothy Shoup, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Louisa County came tearing into Thursday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Warriors as they made off with an 8-2 win.
Louisa County also got a great performance from Lily Ruckle as she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Ruckle has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Hopkins, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Katelyn Cheely was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
Louisa County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in four consecutive games.
Louisa County pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Monticello, their victory bumped their record up to 10-3.
Monticello beat Louisa County 6-1 when the teams last played back in April. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
