The Armstrong River Hawks will head out on the road to challenge the Woodland Hills Wolverines at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Plum scored an imposing 62 points on Wednesday, Armstrong still came out on top. Armstrong pulled ahead with a 63-62 photo finish over Plum. Given Armstrong's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while Plum is ranked 392nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jacob Szep was his usual excellent self, scoring 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Valasek, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, even though Penn Hills scored an imposing 65 points last Tuesday, Woodland Hills still came out on top. Woodland Hills came out on top in a nail-biter against Penn Hills and snuck past 68-65. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Woodland Hills has posted yet this season.
Armstrong's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-6. As for Woodland Hills, their win bumped their record up to 6-10.
Armstrong beat Woodland Hills 58-49 in their previous matchup on January 3rd. The rematch might be a little tougher for Armstrong since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
