The Anna Coyotes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wilmer-Hutchins Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Anna's favor as the team sits on 12 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Wilmer-Hutchins has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Last Friday, Anna didn't have too much trouble with Sulphur Springs at home as they won 30-16. Given Anna's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 85th, while Sulphur Springs is ranked 280th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Anna found their leader in underclassman Ziondre Williams, who threw for 150 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Williams is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. George Rogers was another key contributor, gaining 55 total yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Wilmer-Hutchins suffered a tough 37-12 defeat at the hands of Carter on Friday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wilmer-Hutchins in their matchups with Carter: they've now lost four in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jacob Cummings, who rushed for 140 yards while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Tamajae Mcmillon, who rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Anna's victory lifted them to 9-1 while Wilmer-Hutchins' defeat dropped them down to 7-3.
