The Falls City Beavers will head out on the road to square off against the Three Rivers Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Three Rivers will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Falls City extended their winning streak to four on Tuesday. The Beavers blew past Brackett 13-3.
Luke Morawietz was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Morawietz was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Eli Arenas was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Tanner Krawietz was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Falls City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Three Rivers got the win against Knippa on Tuesday by a conclusive 13-3.
Like Falls City, Three Rivers also got a great game from a two-way player: Lathan Meyer. Throwing, Meyer struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Dylan Ender pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Meyer went 1-for-3 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Ender went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those five stolen bases gave Meyer a new career-high.
In other batting news, Nathan Longinos was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Evin Sheppard, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Falls City's record is now 13-10. As for Three Rivers, their record now sits at 9-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Falls City has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Three Rivers struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Falls City's way against Three Rivers when the teams last played back in March, as Falls City made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Beavers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
