Hand one to the upstarts.
North Shore (Houston, Texas)
a Texas power on the rise with an abundance of young talent, took it to eight-time state champion and 13th-ranked Katy
35-21 at Legacy Stadium on Friday night.
It was the opening Friday Night in Texas.
The lofty talents of junior running back Zachary Evans
powered the Mustangs by rushing for 150 yards and four touchdowns, according to the Houston Chronicle
It took the nation's top-ranked junior running back just 15 carries and three quarters to pile up the numbers. He sat out the third quarter getting hydrated.
It was a revenge game of sorts for North Shore, which was eliminated by Katy 31-3 in regional's last season.
Three touchdowns by Evans made it 21-7, before Katy closed to 28-14 with 6:39 left in the third on a second touchdown rushing by first-year quarterback Bronson McClelland
who earlier scored on a 60-yard run.
But Evans returned in the fourth quarter and put it away with a 1-yard touchdown after he set it up with a 33-yard burst. Sophomore quarterback Dematrius Davis
(14 of 18, 187 yards, touchdown) also had a strong game for the Mustangs, who finished with 381 yards.
One of the nation's top senior running backs, Deondrick Glass
finished with 27 carries for 141 yards. But North Shore kept him out of the end zone.
