Big Island II recap September 24, 2013
Brandon Howes and Chase Takaki provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Hawaii Prep. The longest such play in Big Island II this season, the connection resulted in 90 yards.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Konawaena beat the Ka Makani 22-21,. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Wildcats.
Micah Kanehailua threw for 224 yards and 30 touchdowns. He went 18-35 with 1 interception.
Howes provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Konawaena beat Hawaii Prep. He completed 9 passes for 202 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 88 yards. Howes' favorite target this week was Takaki, who caught 6 passes for 166 yards.
Kanehailua put up the best numbers through the air as Kamehameha Hawai'i lost to Hilo. Kanehailua's favorite target this week was Logan Uyetake, who caught 7 passes for 105 yards.
Eric Edmund was a key player and the best on defense this week as Cliff Walters' team topped Jordan Hayslip's team. The 5-foot-8 senior.
Takaki was the best receiver in the league this week as the Wildcats topped the Ka Makani. Cameron Howes helped Konawaena's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 32 yards.
Howes was the most successful running back in Big Island II this week. Bubba Ellis-noa also contributed to the rushing game with 73 yards on the ground.
Konawaena's Howes and Takaki have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Howes has thrown for 1,791 yards this season, while Takaki, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 38 catches for 689 yards. Faaolaina Ina Teofilo from the Warriors leads the league in rushing with 580 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Kamehameha Hawai'i takes on Honoka'a. Dan Lyons' team is currently in third, while the Dragons are in fourth.
Hawaii Prep was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after falling to the Wildcats. The Ka Makani came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.
