It was a good run, but The Olton Mustangs unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They were dealt a 56-21 loss at the hands of New Deal. Olton was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-14.
When it comes to explaining why Olton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Isaiah Ruiz. Despite the final result, he rushed for 246 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Ruiz was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards. Raymond Ramirez also helped out as he racked up 118 rushing yards.
New Deal got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Slade Martin out in front who rushed for 162 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Martin is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last four games he's played. Aiden Ysaguirre also deserves a shout-out for his three touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was New Deal's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Konner Vasquez and Bryson Houston who racked up four sacks between them.
Olton's defeat dropped their record down to 7-2. As for New Deal, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
Olton will be playing at home against Tahoka at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for New Deal, they will head out on the road to face off against Sundown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
