WPIAL AAA Big Nine recap Oct. 3, 2012
West Mifflin extended the longest winning streak in WPIAL AAA Big Nine this week by beating Ringgold, 48-20. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Titans.
West Mifflin moved up to 89 from 132 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 48-20 win over the Rams helped Ray Braszo's team improve its standing.
Thomas Jefferson's dynamic duo of Joe Carroll and Zach Schademan proved tough for Albert Gallatin to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Carroll threw for 165 yards and three touchdowns and Schademan had 108 yards receiving. Colton Booher helped Thomas Jefferson's passing attack out by catching three balls for 40 yards.
James Wheeler was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 279 yards on 31 carries as the Titans topped the Colonials. Teammate Derrick Fulmore added to the ground attack by rushing for 123 yards.
Thomas Jefferson's Carroll and Schademan have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading WPIAL AAA Big Nine in both passing and receiving yards. Carroll has thrown for 994 yards this season, while Schademan, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 25 catches for 485 yards. Wheeler from West Mifflin leads the league in rushing with 1061 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Titans take on Elizabeth Forward. At the moment, West Mifflin is in first, while the Warriors are in fifth.
Bill Cherpak's team took down Albert Gallatin 50-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Carroll in the win.
