Even though the Mt. Zion Braves scored an imposing 56 points on Friday, the Goreville Blackcats still came out on top. Goreville took their match against Mt. Zion 63-56.
Goreville was led to victory by Breanna Suits and Abby Compton. Suits dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten assists, while Compton dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was Compton's 18th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ellie Tripp, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Goreville's win bumped their record up to 17-1. As for Mt. Zion, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-6.
Goreville's road trip will continue as they head out to face Massac County at 11:00 a.m. on January 6, 2024. As for Mt. Zion, they will be playing at home against Paris at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Paris is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
