Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 15 to 7 on the offensive boards, a fact the Mica Mountain Thunderbolts proved on Friday. They blew past Desert Edge 61-40.
Isabella Webb was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with five rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Mica Mountain's points. Another player making a difference was Kayla Mathie, who scored 14 points.
Desert Edge's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aysja Ward, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Talyn Miller, who scored ten points.
Mica Mountain's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Desert Edge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-8.
Mica Mountain won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cactus Shadows at 1:30 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Desert Edge will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Westview at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th. Westview is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
