The Thales Academy Apex Titans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their sixth straight loss. They fell 84-73 to Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Friday (56), Thales Academy Apex still had to take the loss.
Several Titans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Justin Brown, who scored 15 points along with four blocks and two steals. Brown hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Railo, who scored 18 points along with two steals.
It was another big night for Kyren Smith, who shot 7-for-14 from deep and dropped a triple-double on 37 points, 12 rebounds, and ten assists for Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill. That makes it four consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill's points. Zachary Powery was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 17 rebounds.
Thales Academy Apex has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 13 of their last 14 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thales Academy Apex on the road again on Thursday and play against Lee Christian at 7:15 p.m. on January 11th. Lee Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Thales Academy Apex likes a good challenge. As for Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill, they will head out on the road to take on Friendship Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Friendship Christian will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
