5A Region III District 24 recap September 24, 2013
Clear Lake moved up to 346 from 446 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region III District 24. The Falcons were able to move up by topping Conroe 39-23.
Clear Creek was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, the Wildcats defeated Sterling 42-14.
Alex Assarian threw for 191 yards and 2 touchdowns. He went 22-32 with 2 interceptions.
Assarian put up the best numbers in passing as Clear Falls lost to Dawson. Assarian's favorite target this week was John Humphrey, who caught 11 passes for 75 yards.
Jordan Davis was the best wideout in the league this week as Clear Lake topped the Tigers. Davis tallied 6 receptions for 73 yards. Tripp Arnold helped Clear Lake's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 48 yards.
Nicholas McGee was the best running back in 5A Region III District 24 this week. He ran for 190 yards on 16 carries as Sam Smith's team defeated Conroe. Teammate Jordon Pilot added to the ground attack by rushing for 101 yards.
Clear Lake's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Falcons feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Samuel Smith, III has thrown for 712 yards and 5 touchdowns this season, while Davis has 20 catches for 294 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Clear Brook takes on Clear Springs. The Wolverines are currently in fourth, while the Chargers are in first.
The Knights lost to the Eagles 49-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Assarian was a bright spot for Clear Falls, as he ran for 12 yards in the loss.
