Muncy and Montoursville are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2015, but not for long. The Muncy Indians will be playing at home against the Montoursville Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Muncy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matchups -- so hopefully Montoursville likes a good challenge.
Muncy put the finishing touches on their 13th blowout victory of the season on Wednesday. They breezed by South Williamsport on the road to the tune of 68-38. Given Muncy's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 304th, while South Williamsport is ranked 673rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Patrick Zalonis, who scored 24 points along with five steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nathan Rogers, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Montoursville scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Neumann Regional Academy with a sharp 71-48 victory. Perhaps unsurprisinly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Quinn Ranck was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with five assists and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jimmy Mussina, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Muncy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. As for Montoursville, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Muncy have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 33.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Montoursville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Muncy strolled past Montoursville when the teams last played back in December of 2022 by a score of 63-49. Does Muncy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Montoursville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
