Basketball Recap: Goreville Takes a Loss

Goreville was the 67-39 winner over Century when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Goreville Blackcats took a 34-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Century Centurions. While the Blackcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Centurions 12-5 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Goreville still got an impressive performance from Emily Kacinski, who posted seven points along with 17 rebounds and five blocks. Those 17 boards gave Kacinski a new career-high.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Century to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaylee Vanmeter, who put up 15 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Vanmeter has scored at least a third of Century's points. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Mackins, who scored ten points.

Goreville's loss was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-20. As for Century, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-11.

Goreville has already played their next match (against Trico), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Century has already played their next contest, a 38-29 win against Northside Baptist Christian on the 6th.
