Mount Notre Dame will head out on the road to challenge the Mercy McAuley Wolves at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Mount Notre Dame easily dispatched St. Ursula Academy on Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Mount Notre Dame fell just short of Ross by a score of 3-1 on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, Mount Notre Dame couldn't push the score so high this time.
Audrey Gildea spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, McKenna Manley made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run.
Meanwhile, Mercy McAuley won against Bishop Brossart on Monday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. Everything went the Wolves' way against Turpin as they made off with a 12-3 victory. The Wolves not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25th (when they won 19-5).
Kaylee Hartmann made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other pitching news, Sophia Ward looked comfortable as she tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Mercy McAuley got a massive performance out of Olivia Olding, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those four RBI gave Olding a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Callie Elmer, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, two RBI, and one double.
Mercy McAuley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.
Mount Notre Dame's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Mercy McAuley, the win got them back to even at 8-8.
Mount Notre Dame took their victory against Mercy McAuley when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 11-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mount Notre Dame since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
