Aurora Central extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-5. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Alameda Pirates. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 17-4 to the Pirates when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Stephanie Gomez was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in hits (zero). She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Yoselin Reyes Rosales was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Sayda Nogueda was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
As for Alameda, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.
Like Aurora Central, Alameda also got a great game from a two-way player: Alia Gutierrez. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Gutierrez has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in September of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zila Bobian, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Peyton Trujillo, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Looking ahead, Aurora Central will take on Thornton at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Aurora Central will need to watch out since Thornton has now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. As for Alameda, they will take on Arvada in a tournament on Friday.
