Two dominant signal callers in Makobi Adams and Trenton Zeeb are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mt. Zion Braves will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Mater Dei Knights at 7:00 p.m. Mt. Zion will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
Last Friday, Mt. Zion came up short against Effingham and fell 21-14.
Despite the defeat, Mt. Zion got a solid performance out of Adams, who rushed for 45 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the matchup if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Mater Dei's strategy against St. Teresa on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Mater Dei blew St. Teresa out of the water with a 55-7 final score. The result was nothing new for Mater Dei, who have now won five games by 20 points or more so far this season.
Mater Dei's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Markus Kerher led the charge by picking up 57 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Zeeb, who threw for 76 yards and three touchdowns on only seven passes.
With Mt. Zion's loss and Mater Dei's win, both teams now sport identical 6-2 records.
Mt. Zion skirted past Mater Dei 38-35 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Mater Dei's Drake Rensing, who rushed for 129 yards and three touchdowns. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Mt. Zion to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
