Matthew Dees was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-4. He has become a key player for First Coast Christian: the team is 3-1-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-2 otherwise.
In other batting news, John Chacon was a standout: he scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-4. First Coast Christian is 3-0-1 when Chacon posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Aiden Jones-Rudy, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Cedar Creek Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of Parsons Christian Academy. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Kaden Silcox made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Charley Alvarez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases.
Cedar Creek Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for First Coast Christian, they now have a winning record of 4-3-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. First Coast Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cedar Creek Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went First Coast Christian's way against Cedar Creek Christian when the teams last played back in February, as First Coast Christian made off with an 11-4 win.
