On Friday, the Riverton Silverwolves faced the Herriman Mustangs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Riverton fell just short of Herriman by a score of 96-93. It was the first time this season that Riverton let down their fans at home.
Despite the loss, Riverton still got an impressive performance from Ben Barrus, who scored 31 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barrus has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kaden Allred, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Riverton were working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Herriman's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carlo Mulford, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 assists. Mulford has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. Ike Palmer was another key contributor, scoring 27 points along with six rebounds.
Riverton's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-4. As for Herriman, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riverton will take on Copper Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Copper Hills is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Herriman, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Bingham at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Bingham's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
