The Vidalia Vikings are taking a road trip to face off against the Marksville Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Vidalia has given up an average of 13.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Vidalia came up short against Bunkie on Tuesday, falling 20-5. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Piper Weatherly made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Marksville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Caldwell Parish 5-4. While the Tigers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Katie Lachney was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kristen Lachney, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Madison Lachney, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Marksville's record is now 6-3. As for Vidalia, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Vidalia has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .513. However, it's not like Marksville struggles in that department as they've averaged .481. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Vidalia suffered a grim 13-6 defeat to Marksville in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Vidalia avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
