Tanner is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Booneville is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Tanner Rattlers will take on the Booneville Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Tanner was fully in charge, breezing past Red Bay 46-14 at home. Tanner pushed the score to 34-6 by the end of the third, a deficit Red Bay had little chance of recovering from.
Tanner's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tailin Hall, who rushed for 94 yards on only nine carries, and also picked up 51 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Karl Parham, who threw for 209 yards and two touchdowns on only 17 passes.
Meanwhile, Booneville got themselves on the board against Alcorn Central on Friday, but Alcorn Central never followed suit. They claimed a resounding 48-0 victory over the Bears on the road. Given Booneville's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 98th, while Alcorn Central is ranked 256th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Booneville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Noah Gillon led the charge by throwing for 211 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes. Zion Nunn was another key contributor, rushing for 58 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 7-2.
