Balboa dodged a bullet on Thursday, finishing off Mission 25-24. Having pegged this as anyone's game, the MaxPreps rankings were right on the nose.
Balboa got off to a slow start in their matchup last week against Mission, but they had no such trouble against Mission as they cruised to a 19-point first half. Mission countered with 14 points, leaving the score at 19-14 going into the half. The Buccaneers almost let the contest get away from them in the second half, but they had just enough oomph to take it.
The victory makes it two in a row for Balboa and bumps their record up to 6-5. This is the second loss in a row for the Bears and nudges their record down to 4-6-1.
The Buccaneers will take on Lincoln in each of the teams' second playoff game next week. The stakes are high as both of those teams are all in, each fighting to extend its postseason success. The Bears are on the road again on Monday and play against FakeName.
