Madison is 0-5 against Bonita Vista since January of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Madison Warhawks are taking a road trip to face off against the Bonita Vista Barons at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Madison is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Vincent Memorial with a sharp 56-35 win. Given the Warhawks' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 193rd, while the Scots are ranked 493rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Madison to victory, but perhaps none more so than Runnar(rj) Miller, who almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. What's more, Miller also posted three blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Eli Stevens was another key player, going 6-for-14 on his way to 12 points.
Meanwhile, Bonita Vista came tearing into Tuesday's match with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. They really took it to the Patriots for the full four quarters, racking up a 73-35 victory. With the Barons ahead 35-11 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Madison better focus on containing Aaron Owens and Jerry Stokes as the pair were huge in Bonita Vista's win. Owens scored 25 points, while Stokes had 22 points. Owens' evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Adam Mitchell, who put up eight points.
Bonita Vista pushed their record up to 21-8 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.2 points over those games. As for Madison, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season.
Madison came up short against Bonita Vista in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 56-46. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Stokes, who went 7-for-12 en route to 23 points. Now that Madison knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
