5A Region II District 15 recap October 1, 2013
Bowie added to the longest winning streak in 5A Region II District 15 this week by beating Westlake, 21-16. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Akins scaled the state rankings by moving to 719 from 837 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Eagles were able to move up by beating Del Valle 25-23.
Lake Travis's dynamic duo of Dominic De Lira and Grant Foster proved tough for Austin to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. De Lira threw for 187 yards and 2 touchdowns and Foster had 86 yards receiving. Tyler Payne helped Lake Travis' passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 47 yards.
Teddy Lowery was a force in the backfield as Akins beat the Cardinals.
Lowery provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Humberto Garza's team defeated Del Valle. He completed 4 passes for 62 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 234 yards.
Charles Burton's team's Juan Padron and Altany Wilson have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Padron has thrown for 915 yards this season, while Wilson, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 21 catches for 361 yards. Lowery from the Eagles leads the league in rushing with 703 yards.
The top two teams in 5A Region II District 15 will face off this week when first place Bowie takes on second place Lake Travis. Bowie bested the Chaparrals last week, while the Cavaliers beat the Maroons.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Lake Travis takes on Jeff Ables' team. Hank Carter's team has allowed 59 points this season, while the Bulldogs have given up 107. The Cavaliers allowed 12 points last week as they defeated Austin.
Akins and the Cardinals played the most contested game in the league this week, with Akins eventually emerging with a 25-23 victory. Lowery ran for 234 yards in the win.
