Falfurrias fell just short of Rio Hondo by a score of 38-35. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rio Hondo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Eddie Martinez, who rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Martinez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. Ruben Atkinson also helped out by tossing the rock for 275 yards.
Falfurrias has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for Rio Hondo, the victory was the fourth in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Falfurrias will challenge Santa Gertrudis Academy at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Texas (Santa Gertrudis Academy is ranked 1000th, while Falfurrias is ranked 975th). As for Rio Hondo, they will head out on the road to face off against San Diego at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th.
