The Cypress Lakes Spartans fell victim to the Bridgeland Bears''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were dealt a 56-0 defeat at the hands of the Bears. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cypress Lakes in their matchups with Bridgeland: they've now lost five in a row.
Joaquin Escobar threw for 90 yards on 12 of 20 attempts. Theo Fields was his top target, rushing for 15 yards.
Jett Lewis was the offensive standout of the game as he threw for 276 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes. Noah Allen Cuellar was another key contributor, rushing for 50 yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Cypress Lakes to a paltry 83 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Bridgeland's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Kason Nowak and his two sacks.
Cypress Lakes' defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-6. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.5 points per game. As for Bridgeland, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.
Cypress Lakes will head out on the road to face off against Langham Creek at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Bridgeland, they will be playing at home against Cypress Springs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cypress Springs will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 208th, while Bridgeland is ranked 93rd).
