Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to post eight more assists than your opponent, a fact the Reed-Custer Comets proved on Thursday. They managed a 48-42 victory over Streator. The win made it back-to-back wins for Reed-Custer.
Kaylee Tribble was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 18 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Beard, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Streator's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joey Puetz, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Puetz continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ava Gwaltney, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
The victory got Reed-Custer back to even at 11-11. As for Streator, their defeat was their 22nd straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-22.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Reed-Custer will take on Beecher at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Beecher is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games. As for Streator, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Coal City at 6:45 p.m. Coal City presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Streator in Illinois (Coal City is ranked 120th, while Streator is ranked 673rd).
