Milford hasn't had much luck against King Philip Regional recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Scarlet Hawks will challenge the Warriors at 4:15 p.m.
On Monday, Milford came up short against Attleboro and fell 6-3.
Max Marin was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March.
At the plate, Milford saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Derek Marcolini, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Michael McGrath also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, King Philip Regional faced Attleboro in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Warriors blew past the Bombardiers 10-0. Considering the Warriors have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Cam Hasenfus's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Drew Herlin was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kevin Heine, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
King Philip Regional was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
King Philip Regional's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Milford, their loss dropped their record down to 5-12.
