Tumwater has gone a perfect 10-0 against Black Hills recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Thunderbirds will look to defend their home field against the Wolves at 4:30 p.m. Tumwater is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Tumwater nor WF West made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Thunderbirds' pitchers stepped up to hand the Bearcats a 2-0 shutout. The game was the first time the Thunderbirds have beaten the Bearcats on their field since May 28, 2022.
Tumwater's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Megan Barrett, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Erika Schock also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Black Hills had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Shelton 10-0 on Monday. The Wolves not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 19th (when they won 14-2).
Ella Goheen made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Goheen was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kailey Miller, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madi Malone, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Black Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Tumwater is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games. As for Black Hills, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Black Hills' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Tumwater has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11 hits per game. It's a different story for Black Hills, though, as they've been averaging 9.4 hits. Given Tumwater's sizable advantage in that area, the Wolves will need to find a way to close that gap.
Tumwater took their win against Black Hills in their previous meeting last Friday by a conclusive 15-3 score. Do the Thunderbirds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
