Coventry and Springfield are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Comets will head out to face off against the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Coventry made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Field, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Comets fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 3-1 on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Comets couldn't push the score so high this time.
Addisyn Hahn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Isabella Smith made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Springfield came out on top against Ravenna on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Ravens. Considering the Spartans have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Springfield also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Aaliyah Boswell gave up only one earned run on four hits.
On the hitting side, Breanna Ruggiero was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and one double while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jill Inch, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Springfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The victory made it two in a row for Springfield and bumps their season record up to 6-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Coventry, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Coventry hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .408. However, it's not like Springfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Coventry was able to grind out a solid victory over Springfield in their previous matchup on April 9th, winning 11-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
