The Auburn Trojans will venture away from home to square off against the Kentridge Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Auburn has now lost 13 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 19.
Auburn lost 16-1 to South Whidbey on Saturday.
Auburn saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ivory Brodie, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Kentridge made sure to put some runs up on the board against Interlake on Monday. The Chargers were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the Saints. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.
Jozi Thompson made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Naomi Benavides was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three doubles, and four RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sam Holbrook, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Kentridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Kentridge is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Auburn, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Auburn has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Kentridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Auburn suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Kentridge when the teams last played on April 3rd. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
