ESPN has Cambridge pegged as the No. 1 guard and No. 3 overall prospect in the Class of 2024. She is leaving Ensworth (Nashville, Tenn.) to play for new Montverde Academy head coach Matt Shewmake, who left The Webb School in Tennessee to take over the Florida program.
Shewmake is replacing Special Jennings, who left for Jacksonville University shortly after Montverde Academy won its second straight GEICO Nationals title and was crowned national champion.
Cambridge was named MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year in 2022 and told The Tennessean on Friday it was tough to leave Ensworth.
"It wasn't an easy decision, but it was the best decision for me," Cambridge
told the newspaper. "I have goals for wanting to play on an even bigger stage. Goals to play a national schedule. Montverde was the right choice for me so I can fulfill my dreams."
Cambridge is deciding between seven schools including 2023 national champion LSU in addition to Baylor, Florida, Georgia, Louisville, Ohio State and South Carolina.
The Montverde Academy addition averaged nearly 27 points along with 7.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists for 27-3 Ensworth last season. The Tigers reached the Division II-AA state title game last year after winning the championship in 2022.
The Cambridge-Shewmake connection is already established as she told The Tennessean that he coached her sister Kennedy in travel ball. Cambridge is the second Tennessee standout to head to Florida for Montverde Academy, joining
Cori Allen, who left Hillsboro in 2021 and will be a freshman at the University of Illinois.
