Mountain View and Kelso are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Thunder will welcome the Hilanders at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mountain View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Mountain View is headed into the matchup having just suffered their closest loss since April 26, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Heritage by a score of 5-3. The Thunder have struggled against the Timberwolves recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Mountain View saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emily Palomino, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Kelso hadn't done well against Prairie recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Hilanders came out on top in a nail-biter against the Falcons, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hilanders have posted since May 18, 2024.
Kylie Killett tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kalli Carter, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Peyton Champagne also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Mountain View's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Kelso, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mountain View has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Kelso struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Mountain View suffered a grim 22-1 defeat to Kelso in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Thunder have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
