Bear River has gone 9-1 against Mountain Crest recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Bears will look to defend their home field against the Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. Bear River will be looking to extend their current 12-game winning streak.
Bear River is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: West Field, who was ranked 12th at the time (Bear River was ranked second). The Bears never let the Longhorns get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory on Tuesday.
Not much got past Kate Wilson, who gave up just three hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep West Field off the board. Wilson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Marley Tisdol, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Bella Dougals, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Mountain Crest came into Wednesday's match having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over Layton on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mustangs have posted since March 7th.
Mountain Crest saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Coulam, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Coulam has posted since back in March. Keltey Hendry also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Bear River pushed their record up to 19-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Mountain Crest, their win bumped their record up to 6-12.
Mountain Crest's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bear River has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for Mountain Crest, though, as they've been averaging 9.1 hits. Given Bear River's sizable advantage in that area, the Mustangs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Bear River took their victory against Mountain Crest when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 20-3 score. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
