Smithtown Christian has been on the road for four straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Shelter Island Islanders at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Smithtown Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Shelter Island likes a good challenge.
Last Thursday, Smithtown Christian strolled past Southold with points to spare, taking the game 58-43. Given Smithtown Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 300th, while Southold is ranked 667th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Smithtown Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lorenzo Crilly led the charge by scoring 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah McCarter, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, Shelter Island's 21-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Friday. They walked away with a 50-40 win over Ross. That ten points margin sets a new team best for Shelter Island this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Shelter Island to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hayden Davidson, who scored 19 points. That's the first time this season that Davidson scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Harrison Weslek, who scored ten points.
Smithtown Christian's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.8 points per game. As for Shelter Island, their win ended a 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-6.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Smithtown Christian hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 66.1 points per game. It's a different story for Shelter Island, though, as they've been averaging only 40 points per game. The only thing between Smithtown Christian and another offensive beatdown is Shelter Island. Will they be able to keep them contained?
