The McGuffey Highlanders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 25 points or more this season. They took their matchup on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 61-29 victory over Leechburg. Given McGuffey's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while Leechburg is ranked 682nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leechburg lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jayden Floyd, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds. Floyd scored a full 27.6% of Leechburg's points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Rocco Vigna was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds and four steals.
McGuffey's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Leechburg, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-6.
McGuffey will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Charleroi at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Leechburg will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Apollo Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Apollo Ridge is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
