Two dominant guards in Peter Moye and RANDY JOHNSON are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The South Mecklenburg Sabres will head out on the road to challenge the Olympic Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully South Mecklenburg focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Wednesday.
South Mecklenburg was handed a 28-point loss in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against Ardrey Kell on Wednesday. South Mecklenburg came out on top in a nail-biter against Ardrey Kell and snuck past 63-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
South Mecklenburg's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Moye, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds. Moye has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Myles Howard, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Olympic's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to Berry.
DEANGELO HALL put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. RICO JACKSON was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
South Mecklenburg's victory bumped their record up to 15-2. As for Olympic, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.
Friday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: South Mecklenburg have been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 46.2% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Olympic struggles in that department as they've made 39.6% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
South Mecklenburg barely slipped by Olympic in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 53-52. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Mecklenburg since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
