CAPE CORAL, Fla. - After trading leads two times,
Estero (Fla.) snatched the lead for good when
Christian Phillips thew a touchdown to
Ricky Lopez in the second quarter, paving the way for victory over
Mariner (Cape Coral, Fla.) 48-35.
The Wildcats were up 34-21 at the half after taking the lead on a Phillips touchdown pass to Lopez in the second quarter.
Estero saw its 13-point halftime lead fall to six entering the fourth.
The Tritons'
Eric Russaw played well. The sophomore running back ran for three touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to seven on the year.
EHS's most effective player was
Eric McFadden. The senior running back threw one touchdown and ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 17 touchdowns on the season.
When the two teams played each other last season, the Wildcats came away with a 27-14 victory.
With the win Estero extended its winning streak to four games.
Mariner (2-6) goes up against Cypress Lake in a 5A District 11 game matchup next week, while Estero (6-2) locks horns with Lehigh also in a 5A District 11 game.
