Gregory-Portland has been on the road for two straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Miller Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gregory-Portland has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 363 points over their last five matchups.
Even though Victoria East scored an imposing 58 points on Wednesday, Gregory-Portland still came out on top. Gregory-Portland managed a 62-58 victory over Victoria East. Given Gregory-Portland's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while Victoria East is ranked 605th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Shawn Williams was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 19 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Juaquin Felan, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Miller waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They had just enough and edged Ray out 77-74. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
It was another big night for Corey Holmes, who scored 25 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. George Simmons was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Gregory-Portland's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-4. As for Miller, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season.
Gregory-Portland beat Miller 67-59 in their previous meeting on January 5th. Will Gregory-Portland repeat their success, or does Miller have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
