The Whiting Oilers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They came out on top against Hammond Bishop Noll by a score of 69-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Whiting's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Victoria Velez, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Velez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Quinones, who scored 25 points.
When it comes to explaining why Hammond Bishop Noll lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jalyssia Crawford. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 27 points and 17 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Crawford has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Quinn Fehr, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
The win makes it two in a row for Whiting and bumps their season record up to 7-11-1. As for Hammond Bishop Noll, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whiting will challenge Gary West Side at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hammond Bishop Noll won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Wheeler at 5:00 p.m. on January 20th. Wheeler will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
