After a string of 12 wins, the Simsbury Trojans's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 37-30 to Middletown. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Simsbury has scored all season.
Shalyn Smith was her usual excellent self, scoring 15 points along with two steals for Middletown. Smith is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Gabby Butler, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds.
Simsbury's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 12-1. As for Middletown, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Simsbury will take on the Warriors at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Windsor will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Connecticut Rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Trojans are ranked first). As for Middletown, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Golden Hurricanes at 6:45 p.m.
