The James Monroe Mavericks were the 57-51 winner over the Greenbrier East Spartans when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. James Monroe was the victim of a rough 76-51 defeat at the hands of Greenbrier East on Tuesday. James Monroe just can't catch a break and has now endured three losses in a row.
Despite the loss, James Monroe had strong showings from Maggie Boroski, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds and six steals, and Mary Beth Meadows, who scored 13 points along with six assists and four steals. Meadows is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Abbigail Mathis, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
James Monroe's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Greenbrier East, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.
James Monroe and Montcalm will face off at 5:45 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully James Monroe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Tuesday. As for Greenbrier East, they will be playing at home against Princeton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Princeton is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
