On Tuesday, the Guardian Angels Central Catholic Bluejays faced the Pender Pendragons in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Guardian Angels Central Catholic came out on top against Pender by a score of 62-55. Guardian Angels Central Catholic is really starting to get used to good results now that the team's won 11 straight.
Pender lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Avery Wegner, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya Dolliver, who scored 15 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Guardian Angels Central Catholic pushed their record up to 14-1 with that win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Pender, their loss ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 20-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Guardian Angels Central Catholic will square off against Pierce on Thursday. Hopefully Guardian Angels Central Catholic is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Pierce in Nebraska (Guardian Angels Central Catholic is ranked ninth, while Pierce is ranked 61st). As for Pender, they will head out on the road to square off against Homer at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Homer will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Pender surely won't give up without a fight.
