Even though the Herculaneum Black Cats scored an imposing 55 points on Friday, the Jefferson Blue Jays still came out on top. Jefferson managed a 59-55 win over Herculaneum. This was payback for Jefferson, who suffered a 62-44 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jefferson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Halayna Loyd, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Neels, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Jefferson is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Herculaneum, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson's road trip will continue as they head out to face St. Vincent at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. St. Vincent will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Herculaneum will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on St. Pius X at 5:30 p.m. on January 31st.
