Baseball Game Preview: Cordia Lions vs. Jenkins Cavaliers

Cordia is 1-9 against Jenkins since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lions will challenge the Cavaliers at 5:30 p.m. One thing working in Cordia's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four matches.

While Cordia's victory against Red Bird wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lions had just enough and edged out the Cardinals 17-15. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Jeremy Holland was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Cordia got a massive performance out of Riley Melton, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Melton has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Cory Dobson, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

Meanwhile, Jenkins was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against Castlewood, falling 15-0.

Cordia's record is now 4-19. As for Jenkins, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-13.

Cordia suffered a grim 17-0 defeat to Jenkins in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
