Softball Recap: Lakeview Takes a Loss

If Lakeview was riding high fresh off their 16-10 takedown of White Cloud last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Morley Stanwood Mohawks on Wednesday. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mohawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Katelyn Buchner was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off eight hits. Buchner was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-4. Buchner is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least two every time she's taken the field this season.

Buchner wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kaileigh Ripley, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. That triple marked the first that Ripley hit this season.

Lakeview's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-5. As for Morley Stanwood, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Mohawks beat Lakeview by a score of 10-7 later that day.
