The Sacred Heart Valkyries have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 54-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Miami Country Day on Tuesday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Sacred Heart has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Sacred Heart lost, one person who can't be blamed is ZaKiyah Johnson. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds. Addison Kincaid was another key contributor, scoring four points.
Sacred Heart's defeat dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Miami Country Day, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Sacred Heart won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Mater Dei at 10:30 a.m. on December 20th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in the nation (Mater Dei is ranked 13th in California, while Sacred Heart is ranked seventh in Kentucky). Miami Country Day will finish 2023 at home by hosting Nazareth Academy at 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday.
