The Newark Memorial Cougars are headed away from home for the first time to challenge the Alameda Hornets at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It was a proper cat-fight when Newark Memorial duked it out with Burlingame on Thursday. Newark Memorial came out on top against Burlingame by a score of 7-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
Ariana Romo made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Romo was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases.

In other batting news, Newark Memorial got a massive performance out of Mahlyah Sao, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and one run. Those three doubles gave Sao a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Andrea Tall, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Newark Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Burlingame only posted a batting average of .321.
Meanwhile, Alameda earned a 4-1 victory over Foothill on Thursday.
Alameda also got a great performance from Kaylee Huey as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Alameda's win was truly a team effort as eight different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Miley Gradney, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
Newark Memorial now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Alameda, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Newark Memorial has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Alameda struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Newark Memorial might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Alameda in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Newark Memorial avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
